This was the first full week while on vacation in Trinidad. I managed to run 30 miles, but at a pretty slow pace.
I’m still not feeling as comfortable running as I have in the past. Even this week, I have been running rather slow and since I’ve been running with my sister, I’ve been able to try the talk test. Needless to say, I’m running slow enough to carry on a conversation. What I’m finding is that my legs are what are getting tired. I’m not winded or grasping for air at all, my legs seem to be building up a lot of lactic acid, even at the slow pace.
During my runs this week, I found I had to walk a bit every mile in the first half and every 0.5 miles in the second half.
I guess I can attribute some of the fatigue to the higher humidity levels in Trinidad, but the temperatures are actually comparable to TX.
With just 10 weeks of training left, my confidence level for the marathon is at an all time low. It would seem that a sub 4-hr marathon isn’t in the cards….certainly not based on how my training has been going.
Something else I need to watch is my weight. Being on vacation, I’ve been eating a lot of and I know I have gained some weight. My clothes are just a little more snug. I return to TX on Thursday and I have to get my diet under control!

This week was another easy week. I only ran 10 miles at the start. I’m still not feeling quite right and the runs are still a struggle.
After running just 10 miles for each of the last 2 weeks, I’m hoping to ramp back up and run 35 miles this week. I’m on vacation in Trinidad so the weather is a bit more humid, but the good thing is that I have my sister to run with which will provide a bit more motivation to actually get out the door.

Well, this has been a super easy week. I’ve run a grand total of 10 miles for the week!
I decided to take it real easy and try to rest as I think I’m definitely overtrained. Even the 5-milers I did this week were a chore.
I’ll be starting fresh on Sunday and will go for a 10-12 mile run and then see if I can get into my new, revised running schedule.

This week is a turning point in my training plan. I’ve come to realize that it is very unlikely I’ll be able to keep up my level of running. By body just can’t recover quickly enough. This week i went out for a 11-mile run on Thursday and my legs just felt dead. If this was an isolated incident I wouldn’t have worried about it too much, but I know I’ve been constantly tired for the last few weeks.
I’m going to cut back my running a bit during the week and do just 1 medium-long run during the week. I’ll continue to run long on Sundays. My plan for the coming week would thus be:
| Sun |
17 Miles |
| Mon |
Rest |
| Tue |
5 Miles |
| Wed |
10 Miles |
| Thu |
5 Miles |
| Fri |
5 Miles |
| Sat |
Rest |
I would run the same runs during the week and only the Sunday run will vary. This would still give me 42 miles for the week. I will make every effort to stay at 40 miles. The difference would be that during the week, I’ll be resting or just running an easy 5 miles and just the one medium-long run instead of the 2 I’ve been doing so far.

Today is probably going ot be a turning point in my marathon training. My 11-mile easy run ended up being 1.5 miles. My body just can’t keep up.
I posted a message in the RunningAhead Forums looking for some advice, but I’m pretty sure I will have to change my running plan so I run less and try and get more recovery time in.
